The work with developing completely free drivers for both ATI and Nvidia is going forward in a hurry. New tools have been developed to reproduce code from the binaries. According to developer Jerome Glisse you just might have the drivers ready for download at Christmas.
Well working 3D-drivers is something we Linux users still have to deal with, when it comes to 3D-acceleration then unfortunately Linux is still weak on that point.
Instead we have to use the poorly working ones that the graphic-card companies provide us with.
Jerome Glisse believes that we’ll have free drivers around Christmas for ATIs R500 and R600 cards.
I really hope they get this rolling so we finally can get some decent games for Linux, as today it’s not looking that promising.
