The Russian state authority for export control (FSTEC) is on the way to evaluate and certificate the Linux Distribution Mandriva. Mandriva will be used as the operating system in organisations that work with confidential information.

The certification process is said to be finished in the time of three to six months.
The development is conducted in Mandriva’s office in Russia, France and Brazil. According to the press release from Mandriva say that their company’s Linux distribution is considered to become the operating system that will be used in Russia. But we still haven’t had any confirmation on Mandriva’s statement from Russia yet. We’ll just have to wait and see.
A security certification of Mandriva issued by FSTEC have the benefits that the distribution will be approved to be used by other too. This will open up the way for other institutes in Russia that work with confidential information to install and run the distribution.
