Today the world will vote whether OOXML will become a new ISO-standard or not. However by now we know that the “yes” side will have one vote less as Sweden won’t vote since the first vote was clubbed as invalid.
There wasn’t enough time to hold a new one so Sweden cancels their vote all together.
SIS announced on Friday that there will not be a new vote in the question of making OOXML a new ISO-standard. There is just not enough time the press release said.
According to their rules the request of a vote must be sent out three weeks up front normally, otherwise all the members have to accept the changes, which wasn’t the case here.
I suspect that this was a very wise move done by the opposing side of the OOXML that by now know that a new vote would just produce the same result as before.
By not accepting this time they knew Sweden would step down from the global voting.
No vote is better than a yes vote, a very good move I have to say.
