Yesterday I downloaded the new Wordpress version, and upgraded my blog.
First impressions I got was, well not much changes I can visually spot, expect that the incoming links were very old and mostly from my own blog, and some plugins had a “There is a new update available” showing up.
But the real mess didn’t start until I wanted to write a post today, that’s when I discovered the chaos with this new version. It was as if some evil force pushed a button and unleashed the MySQL-query-daemon.
This is what happened, I was writing a post, finished it and as I normally do hit the publish button and thought everything was cool. How wrong I was, before I could react I hade a blank page with a lot of SQL and PHP errors in my face. I though great, what now did my server screw up or what is going on.
Visited the main page to check if the whole blog was covered in errors, but everything seemed normal so it obviously weren’t any problems with the connection part. And the post I was writing was saved in the database and is displayed without any problems.
This just confused me a lot more, so I tried to comment on it, and as I expected errors, so I hit back, posted again this time the warning from Wordpress about the double posting came up, a nice new feature by the way.
So now I am clueless on what’s going on, a error message that the table weren’t found and unable to post is shown and yet the post is saved and it works as it should.
*Edit*
I did some searching and I got some info that a lot of plugins and themes do not work as they should in version 2.3. As it uses the old tables that are not available in the new version.
So I deactivated plugins and put them on one at a time, to try and locate the problem, and I found two plugins that were causing the errors while posting something.
It was a tag plugin that I used to have running, deactivating it didn’t do much so I had to manually remove its tables and deleted the file all together.
The other plugin that was causing major problems was the Google XML Sitemap plugin that didn’t work with the new version, so I deleted the old files after deactivating it, downloaded the new version 3.0 that supports the new Wordpress version, set it up and it works fine.
I can now post without any errors and so can you.
With this problem sorted out I guess I will not be switching back after all.
